As an observational astronomer, I study "nearby" galaxies: ones within ~30 million light years. My thesis research used planetary nebulae (dying low mass stars) to probe the disk mass of nearby spirals (like our own Milky Way). In 2008, I joined the LITTLE THINGS international team studying how stars form in 41 nearby tiny galaxies and I started studying a larger sample of 141 galaxies in up to 11 different wavelength regions.
