Penn State Mont Alto Offers Certified Recovery Specialist Program

MONT ALTO, Pa. — Penn State Mont Alto is currently accepting registrations for its new Certified Recovery Specialist (CRS) program starting Oct. 6.

CRS is a credential for individuals with personal, lived experience in their own substance use disorder recovery. By offering insight into the recovery process based on their own experience, recovery specialists can provide a unique perspective while providing recovery support services.

Participants will receive training in recovery management, education and advocacy, professional ethics and responsibility, confidentiality, and addictions. This 54-hour training is designed to meet the educational requirements as set forth by the Pennsylvania Certification Board (PCB) and prepare individuals to sit for the CRS exam.

Penn State Mont Alto, in collaboration with Franklin County and Franklin Fulton Drug and Alcohol, will provide CRS training Oct. 6 through Nov. 21 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon at 181 Franklin Farm Lane, Chambersburg, PA.

The cost for the program is $995 per person and includes all required study materials. Individuals from Franklin and Fulton County may receive financial assistance totaling 80 percent of the registration cost.
