Incredible India Embedded Program

Penn State students studying health care, sports, or community disciplines can enroll in this Fall 2019 elective course, learn about their fields of study during the fall semester, and then travel in December to Kerala India to perform community service as it relates to their fields. Throughout the trip, students will also have an opportunity to see some of India’s landmark sites.

NURS 499 is three-credits and will be live-screened during the semester for those who cannot attend class on campus at Penn State Mont Alto. The course instructor is Anne Devney, Penn State Mont Alto assistant teaching professor in nursing. The deadline to enroll is August 26, 2019.

The trip will occur during the 2019 holiday break. The tentative travel dates December 9−22, 2019.

As of June 2019, the estimated cost of the trip is as follows:

  • Air fare, $800 to $1,500 (financial aid and student loans are available through FASFA)
  • India program, $2,540 (includes in-country food, lodging, transportation, and excursions)
  • Passport, $168.60
  • VISA, $60

Penn State Mont Alto faculty members Anne Devney and India native Somjit Barat, School of Business associate professor, will accompany the group. However, the GVI organization — a company that runs high-quality sustainable development and experiential education programs — will serve as guide and host during the trip.
