As part of our regular “We Are!” feature, we recognize nine Penn Staters who have gone above and beyond what’s asked of them in their work at the University.

This week, on behalf of the entire Penn State community, we’d like to say thank you to:

  • Jennifer Barnhart, development assistant in the College of Agricultural Sciences, whose nominator wrote: “Jennifer goes above and beyond her responsibilities to support her team and colleagues. It is important to her to make time for others in the division by getting to know them and supporting them in any way they need. So glad to call her a colleague and friend!”
  • Brandi Biesecker, development assistant at Penn State Mont Alto, whose nominator wrote: “Brandi is always willing to go the extra mile to help. If she doesn't know the answer, she will find out. She is always calm and patient. She is friendly to everyone and is someone who offers encouragement and wisdom to any situation.”
  • Kim Bird, inventory control and distribution specialist for Auxiliary and Business Services, whose nominator wrote: “Kim is always kind and helpful when I have a supply order question or problem. She's my ‘go to’ person!”
  • Kimberley Darlington, financial assistant at Penn State Berks, whose nominator wrote: “Kim is great at making sure our student and technical service employees understand the tasks they need to complete within Workday. From onboarding a new student, to assisting another with their time off requests, Kim is patient and helps them understand the process. She is vital to our team.”
  • Lindsey Hopkins Hall, associate director for student leadership and involvement at Penn State Behrend, whose nominator wrote: “Lindsey and her office coordinated the Behrend Student Leadership Conference. As an attendee, this was an amazing experience, but I’m sure it required a lot of planning and effort from Lindsey and others in her office. Thank you, Lindsey, for all the work you do to enhance student life at Behrend!”
  • Habiba Housseen, student organization coordinator at Penn State Abington, whose nominator wrote: “Habiba joined Student Affairs last semester and already we see the impact of her work and commitment to student organizations. We are so proud to have Habiba on staff — especially since she is an Abington alumna!"
  • John Moses-Brownson, academic and prehealth adviser in the Eberly College of Science, whose nominator wrote: “John is an amazing colleague and adviser! He is a constant source of positivity, support and creativity that allows our team to implement new initiatives and meet challenges head on. Because of him, students feel seen, valued and confident in who they are and the path they are on. Thanks, John!”
  • Angela Port, housing assignment coordinator at University Park, whose nominator wrote: “Angie brings a positive, can-do attitude to work every day, no matter what is going on at home or in the office. Her cheer is infectious, and she is a regular source of customer compliments. Her peers love working with her and so do her supervisors. Penn State is a better place because of Angie.”
  • Christina Santacroce, lead administrative support coordinator at the Graduate School, whose nominator wrote: “Tina always goes above and beyond! She is kind, considerate and incredibly helpful. She tackles many tasks with an infectious positive attitude. Tina projects Penn State pride. It is a pleasure to work with her. Thank you for all that you do!”
  • Timothy Smalarz, college registrar at Penn State Abington, whose nominator wrote: “Tim is the most amazing leader. He leads with kindness and understanding. His manner makes you want to do well by him and always do your best for him. He is happy and positive every day, no matter what else is going on. Tim is great to be around, and we are so lucky to have him.”
  • Aneesah Smith, director of student diversity, equity and inclusion at Penn State Abington, whose nominator wrote: “Aneesah has gone above and beyond in supporting student organizations. She has streamlined processes, created open dialogue among groups and units across campus and has brought a level of energy and excitement to the campus community!”
  • Harinie Srinivasan, talent acquisition specialist in Human Resources, whose nominator wrote: “Harinie always goes above and beyond when assisting with our talent searches. She is positive, thoughtful and strategic when making recommendations. Harinie is always a pleasure to work with and provides clear direction and a wealth of information in complicated processes.”
  • Tony Thomas, database specialist at the Office of Research Information Systems, whose nominator wrote: “Tony is one of our fantastic database administrators. He is willing to roll up his sleeves and pitch in to help, regardless of the issue. His dedication and generosity have made a significant impact on supporting research administration at Penn State. I am inspired by his helpfulness.”

Thank you Jennifer, Brandi, Kim, Kimberley, Lindsey, Habiba, John, Angela, Christina, Timothy, Aneesah, Harinie and Tony — and to everyone who helps make Penn State such an incredible community!
