Traveling to Montréal for Alternative Spring Break will provide the students with an international urban experience, which is in great contrast to day-to-day life in Mont Alto, PA.
ASB supports Penn State Mont Alto’s strategic plan to increase student participation in community service, expand service learning opportunities and increase the number of students who participate in international travel experiences. Montréal provides access to an international ASB experience within a reasonable driving distance.
100% of 2018 and 2019 participants would recommend ASB Montreal to future students.
While there
What will the students do?
The students (in small and large groups) will spend 8+ hours each day Monday through Thursday completing community service projects throughout Montréal, Quebec. Service opportunities are still being finalized but will be planned based on the theme of food insecurities. Outside of service times, students will have opportunities to explore and enjoy the beautiful city of Montréal!
What will the students learn?
An educational, service learning program abroad is an opportunity to experience a country and its cultures in a direct way. For many students, this can be an opportunity to brush up on foreign language skills, discover new foods, gain a greater knowledge of a different culture, and ultimately develop a new vision of the world. Students learn a great deal about themselves through the process.
Where will students live and eat?
Students will be staying in group accommodations in Montréal with easy access to Old Town, Downtown Montréal and Sainte Catherine’s Street. Group meals will be prepared by teams of students each evening.
