ASB Pittsburgh

Traveling to Pittsburgh for Alternative Spring Break will provide the students with an urban experience within the state of Pennsylvania.  Students will be serving the community in our home state.

ASB Pittsburgh is also an excellent opportunity for students who want an ASB experience but do not want to be away for a full week, or travel such a great distance.

While there

What will the students do?

The students will spend 8+ hours each day Sunday through Tuesday, and 4 hours on Wednesday, completing community service projects throughout Pittsburgh. Service opportunities are still being finalized but will be planned based on the theme of food insecurities. Outside of service times, students will have opportunities to explore and enjoy the Steel City!  A few fun group site-seeing outings will be included in the schedule.

What will the students learn?

An educational, service learning program is an opportunity to experience a city in a very unique way. For many students, this can be an opportunity to explore a new city, discover new foods, gain a greater knowledge of a different cultures and social issues, and ultimately develop a new vision of the world. Students learn a great deal about themselves through the process.

Where will students live and eat?

Students will be staying in group accommodations in Downtown Pittsburgh with easy access to the city’s many neighborhoods.  Group meals will be prepared by teams of students each evening.

Financing

How is Alternative Spring Break Pittsburgh being funded at Penn State Mont Alto?

  • Each student will contribute $50 toward the cost.
