On March 24, Francis Achampong, Penn State Mont Alto’s chancellor, welcomed Drs. Craig Hillemeier and Terry Wolpaw to campus. Hillemeier is dean of the Penn State College of Medicine and chief executive officer of Penn State Hershey Medical Center and Health System. Wolpaw is vice dean for educational affairs and professor of medicine at Penn State College of Medicine. During their visit, Hillemeier and Wolpaw learned about the Mont Alto campus and its academic offerings, and discussed possible collaborations.
Penn State Mont Alto Chancellor Francis K. Achampong was the featured speaker during a Rotary Club meeting at the Waynesboro Country Club on March 29, allowing him to highlight the campus' many student- and community-centered initiatives.
Penn State Mont Alto honored students and faculty members achieving academic and teaching excellence during the annual Academic Awards Ceremony in the Multipurpose Activities Center on April 3.
Penn State Mont Alto will continue its spring Colloquy Series at 2 p.m. on April 13 when James Donovan, associate professor of history, will speak on the topic of “History and Hysteria” in the University Library. The program is open to the public and is free of charge. Coffee is provided and discussion is encouraged. The Colloquy Series presents current research by Mont Alto faculty in an informal environment at a level that is accessible to a general audience.
The Penn State Mont Alto Woodsmen’s Team took second among five other institutions during the Mid-Atlantic Intercollegiate Spring Woodsmen’s Meet on April 9. The competition was part of a Timber Fest Industry showcase held at Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Schneebeli Earth Science Center near Allenwood, Pennsylvania.
Penn State Mont Alto released the results of a survey of students’ experiences with and attitudes about sexual misconduct today (April 13), including a finding that 7.8 percent of students reported being the victim of at least one instance or attempt of sexual assault. The results are part of a comprehensive University-wide survey conducted last fall.
The public is invited to join the Penn State Mont Alto Student Chorale in two choral performances. The first will be the chorale’s spring concert at 7 p.m. on April 21 in the historic Emmanuel Chapel at no charge. On May 7, the chorale will be joined by 170 choral performers from four area schools during Penn State Mont Alto’s Second Annual Choral Festival. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Activities Center (MAC). General admission is $5 per person at the door.
Penn State Mont Alto students will display and present their best academic and artistic work during the 11th annual Penn State Mont Alto Academic Festival, set for noon to 3 p.m. April 22, in the Multipurpose Activities Center (MAC). An awards ceremony will be held in the General Studies Building auditorium at 3:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend free of charge. The event is sponsored by F&M Trust Company.
Penn State Mont Alto theatre students will perform five puppet shows for young children, ages pre-kindergarten through kindergarten, at 7 p.m. on April 22 at the Waynesboro Area YMCA, located at 810 East Main Street in Waynesboro. The shows cover such educational themes as lying, teaching, bullying, selfishness, and construction of geometric shapes. It is open to the public and free of charge.
Chancellor Francis K. Achampong presented awards to students whose work placed highest from among 49 research-based projects during Penn State Mont Alto’s 11th annual Academic Festival on April 22. A crowd packed the General Studies Auditorium for the awards ceremony in the General Studies Auditorium. Sponsored by F&M Trust, the Academic Festival highlighted students’ best academic work for the year, including research-based projects, oral presentations, performances and informational exhibits.
