Outstanding Adult Learner Award

Award

  • Framed Certificate
  • Engraved plaque to be displayed on campus honoring winners
  • Two awards will be given:  one for full-time students and one for part-time students

Eligibility

  • Nominee must be starting or resuming an undergraduate degree and must be over the age of 24 or have experienced a gap in education of four or more years.
  • Nominee must be enrolled at Penn State Mont Alto during the semester of nomination.
  • Any student in a Penn State Mont Alto degree program.
    • Full-time: a student who has successfully completed 36 credits by the end of the semester of nomination.  At least 18 of these credits must have been completed at Penn State Mont Alto.
    • Part-time: a student who averages fewer than 12 credits per semester and has successfully completed at least 6 courses for a total of 18 credits. 

Criteria for Judging

  • Difficult circumstances to overcome in order to pursue higher education
  • Success in coping with numerous roles
  • Innovative approaches to meeting personal education needs
  • Supportive of others returning to school
  • Contributions to campus and community
  • Sensitizing the institution to the needs of adult students
  • Cumulative grade point average

Procedure

  • Nominations accepted from any Mont Alto student, faculty, or staff member.  Self-nominations also accepted.
  • Nomination must include:
    • Student’s qualifications for the award as they relate to the "Criteria for Judging"
    • Completion of the nomination form by the nominator (online nomination form located at bottom of page).

Nomination Deadline

Nomination deadline for the 2024-2025 award season is March 28, 2025.
