Penn State Mont Alto to offer American Mathematics Competitions

On Feb. 13, 2019, Penn State Mont Alto will offer the American Mathematical Competitions (AMC) in the auditorium of the General Studies Building beginning at 9 a.m. Students are encouraged to arrive at 8:45 a.m. The test concludes at 10:30 a.m. and for those who are interested, tours of the campus will be made available.
Forestry Students Experience "Big Tree Climb"

'Big climb' culminates arboriculture class

On Nov. 28, Penn State Mont Alto forestry students climbed a 145-foot yellow poplar on the Penn State Mont Alto campus in Assistant Teaching Professor Craig Houghton’s arboriculture class. “The big tree climb culminates 15 weeks of students learning to safely and efficiently climb trees so they can properly care for them,” said Houghton.

Polar Bear Plunge to Support Mont Alto THON Group

On Dec. 2, the Franklin County Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association and the Mont Alto Alumni Society will host a Polar Bear Plunge in support of the Penn State Mont Alto THON group. The event will begin at noon at the Cowans Gap Lake Beach area, located at 6235 Aughwick Road in Ft. Loudon. All funds raised will benefit Four Diamonds to fight pediatric cancer.

The Penn State Mont Alto Chorale will perform three holiday concerts, titled “Heavenly Peace,” featuring songs of the season under the direction of Fred Davison, Penn State Mont Alto instructor in music, on Dec. 2, 4 and 9.

Forestry students to share West Coast experiences

Penn State Mont Alto forestry students will present information about their recent West Coast forestry experiences, from seeing the California redwoods to learning about forest policy and science-management, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Nov. 27 in the Penn State Mont Alto Library. The presentation is open to the public and free of charge.

Board OKs $13 million allied health building project at Penn State Mont Alto

In an effort to provide state-of-the-art facilities and accommodate future growth in the signature Nursing, Physical Therapist Assistant and Occupational Therapy Assistant programs at Penn State Mont Alto, the University’s Board of Trustees today (Nov. 9) approved Hord Coplan Macht, Inc. of Baltimore, Maryland, as the architect for a new allied health building project.

Mont Alto LaunchBox to offer November events

The Mont Alto LaunchBox will provide inspiration and education for entrepreneurs in November during three events that include an Entrepreneur Information Session on Nov. 12, and an Entrepreneurship Fall Forum on Nov. 14. The third event, an Entrepreneur Workshop, will be held on Nov. 29 in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. The events are all free of charge and open to the public.

Tiffany L. Bloyer, Robin H. Harmon and Linda L. Thomas Worthy will take their place as new members of the Penn State Mont Alto's Advisory Board this year. Comprised of alumni, friends and corporate leaders, the Penn State Mont Alto Advisory Board is a key link between the campus and its surrounding communities. Board members not only serve as ambassadors for the campus and the University but also as a conduit for community feedback regarding campus programs and activities.

Penn State Mont Alto's 23rd Annual Scholarship Social

On Oct. 19, Penn State Mont Alto’s 23rd annual Scholarship Social brought 140 donors and scholarship recipients together for a celebration that included good food, inspiring words of gratitude, and the musical sounds of the Mont Alto Chorale.
