There are six testing spaces available for students to take their exams. The proctoring rooms are available in order of priority:
- Students registered with Student Disability Resources
- Mont Alto students taking a non-Mont Alto Penn State online course
- Students taking a make-up exam for an adjunct faculty member
- Student Athletes needing to make-up an exam due to a scheduling conflict due to an athletic competition
- Students requesting private study space
The Academic Support Center staff reserves the right to reschedule, prioritize, and refuse the use of testing rooms to anyone in order to preserve the integrity of the test-taking process for students who meet specific guidelines.
Exam Proctoring Process
The success of the Exam Proctoring Center is a team effort, therefore it is important everyone understands their personal responsibilities in the process. Please review the steps in the procedures to ensure the use of the Exam Proctoring Center is a seamless process.
+ Scheduling Exams (Student)
Students who meet exam proctoring guidelines MUST schedule on the Exam Proctoring schedule available in the Student Success Network on Starfish. Walk-in proctoring will not be accommodated.
Students able to utilize the exam proctoring center include:
- SDR student with accommodations
- Online PSU class either taught by Mont Alto faculty or taken by a Mont Alto student
- Make-up test for adjunct faculty
- Student Athletes needing to make-up an exam due to a scheduling conflict due to athletic competition
Once scheduled, the exam proctor will notify the faculty of the scheduled time and date which will prompt the submission of the exam. If the faculty is not notified by the exam proctor, they can assume the student will be taking the exam in the classroom.
Students should use the following guidelines for scheduling exams (the scheduling system will automatically prevent students from scheduling exams less than 2 working days of their desired dates):
- Extra time (50% - 100%) Schedule within 2 working days
- Alternative Format (i.e. Read & Write, enlargement, etc.) 5 working days
- Assistive Technology (i.e. Reader, scribe, clarification questions, etc.) 5 working days
- In the event the date/time is not available on the schedule, the student should email: [email protected] with the date/time needed and the exam proctor will respond within 12 hours with an appropriate solution.
+ Submitting Exams (Faculty)
ALL EXAMS must be submitted at least 24 hours prior to the exam proctoring date/time unless otherwise stated to account for alternative format and assistive technology that may be necessary.
Faculty will be notified by the exam proctor once the student has scheduled a proctoring time. NOTE: The Office of Civil Rights (OCR) requires that students who qualify for disability services should not be placed with any undue burdens with the accommodation process, thus students WILL NOT be responsible for notifying the faculty when they schedule exams. This will be the responsibility of the Exam Coordinator.
Once notified, exams and proctoring instructions should be completed using this link: Exam Submission & Proctoring Instructions. This ensures access by all exam proctors. Electronic exams will be printed on site by the assigned exam proctor.
In the event an electronic submission is not possible, the faculty should complete the proctoring instructions using the link Exam Submission & Proctoring Instructions and provide the exam printed and inserted into a secure blue testing envelope prior to the time of the exam, bringing to the ASC for drop off. The information on the front of the envelope must be completed by the faculty; must include date, student name, course, faculty’s name, and signature of faculty. Once received, the ASC Front Desk staff will secure the exam in a locked, controlled cabinet.
Scantrons are discouraged. If a Scantron MUST BE used, it should be provided by the faculty directly to the student. Exam proctors WILL NOT handle scantron sheets. Utilized Scantrons will be placed into a provided blue testing envelope by the student and stored in the ASC for pick-up.
NOTE: The same envelope should be used by the faculty for the student throughout the semester for proctoring needs.
+ Retrieving Exams (Faculty)
Completed exams can be retrieved from the ASC Front Desk where they are securely kept. Exams can be scanned by the exam proctor upon request and sent to the faculty electronically to their PSU email within 4 hours of exam completion, if needed. Exam proctors will shred exams after confirmation of receipt is given by the faculty.
Scantron exam answers will be retrieved by the faculty at the ASC Front Desk when staffed. The blue testing envelope containing the Scantron will be handed to the faculty. The faculty will retain the envelope to use in the future.
